A conservative child star took on a liberal child star. Guess who won?

A conservative child star took on a liberal child star. Guess who won?

‘Full House’ actress Candace Cameron Bure debates ‘That’s So Raven’ star Raven-Symone on The View.

The topic? Sweet Cakes, the Oregon bake shop owned by Aaron and Melissa Klein, a Christian couple who have been ordered by the state’s Bureau of Labor and Industry to pay a $135,000 fine for refusing to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple.

Raven, who is both black and lesbian, makes the argument that following one’s religious beliefs, as the Kleins did, is akin to pre-civil rights discrimination against blacks. Or, more specifically, “it’s the same exact thing that they did back in the day saying that black people couldn’t do certain things because it’s my ‘religious belief.’”

[bctt tweet=”So, telling Christians that they can or cannot do certain things is perfectly okay?”]

Candace had a few things to say about that:

“I don’t think this is about discrimination at all. This is about freedom of association. It’s about constitutional rights. It’s about First Amendment rights. We do have the right to still choose who we associate with.”

“[The bakery] didn’t refuse to bake the cake because of [the couple’s] sexual orientation,” Bure continued. “In fact, they baked cakes for them previously. They had a problem with the actual ceremony because that — the ceremony — is what conflicted with their religious beliefs. They are saying that they stand for marriage between a man and a woman.”

It really doesn’t take much, other than a difference of opinion, to reduce Raven-Symone to an eye-rolling, face-making, harrumphing little child, does it?

Candace did a fine job of zeroing in on the real issue. Sweet Cakes didn’t refuse service based on sexual orientation, which is indeed against the law; they refused to provide a service in support of an act, a gay marriage, which goes against their religious beliefs. And, as was rightly noted, they have the Constitutional right to do this.

Candace wins this debate for one simple reason: she is able to verbalize her opinion in a cool, controlled manner while offering Raven a respectful amount of time to offer her own views. As is all too typical of liberals, Raven did not offer the same. This is what it’s like to be conservative and Christian in America today. When a liberal is involved, there isn’t room for two points of view, and you’d better believe they’ll do anything to silence their opponent.

[And on a side note, this isn’t Raven-Symone’s first anti-Constitution rant on “The View.” As we wrote a few weeks back, she doesn’t much like the 2nd Amendment, either.]

Who do you think made the better argument? Let us know in the comments!
