The Dems have frickin’ lost their minds this time

Group of Democrat lawmakers propose to eliminate the words “husband” and “wife” from federal law.

Not content with gay marriage now being the law of the land, a group of Congressional Democrats have decided that the words “husband” and “wife” must be stricken from federal law because, of course, someone, somewhere might take offense at any word that denotes gender.

Rep. Lois Capps, a Democrat from California (but of course), has proposed The Amend the Code for Marriage Equality Act. Per Ms. Capps:

The Amend the Code for Marriage Equality Act recognizes that the words in our laws have meaning and can continue to reflect prejudice and discrimination even when rendered null by our highest courts. Our values as a country are reflected in our laws. I authored this bill because it is imperative that our federal code reflect the equality of all marriages.

I agree, words do have meaning. For example, husband, as defined by Oxford Dictionary:

A married man considered in relation to his spouseshe and her husband are both retired

And then there’s wife:

A married woman considered in relation to her spouse.

The Supreme Court has ruled that married men and women can legally have spouses of either gender. So why the need to neuter those two words — husband and wife — that have long-held and cherished meanings? It’s simply yet another attack by the left on the common sense principles and values by which everyday Americans live their lives.

And speaking of values, Lois Capps could not be more wrong. Our laws don’t always reflect our values and our values don’t always reflect our laws. But that’s the expected ebb and flow of a society that is rooted in liberty.

Besides these 24 agitators disguised as lawmakers, who exactly wants this to happen? Are there actually 24 constituencies out there that think this is a good idea? Have I missed the outcry from the LGBT community that they themselves don’t wish to be called ‘husband’ or ‘wife’, even though they’ve fought for a very long time for the legal right to use those exact terms?

And let’s not kid ourselves, it only starts with federal law. The end game, of course, is to have absolutely no “gendered terms” allowed in the American lexicon. And probably no genders, either.

It seems like Democrats won’t rest until Americans lose their individuality — the thing that makes our nation great — and become one big monolithic, genderless and homogeneous mass.
