What these Louisiana prisoners can teach the rest of the country

Angola: Out of the Ashes

Criminal justice reform is a hot topic these days. With the upcoming lame duck session of Congress poised to consider justice reform legislation, The Coalition for Public Safety and the US Justice Action Network have just released this new video, Angola: Out of the Ashes, about the largest maximum security prison in our country, Louisiana’s Angola penitentiary. It showcases a game-changing training and re-entry program for those who are incarcerated.

Poll after poll, story after story, and riot after riot have shown that people understand our justice system simply isn’t working. America is ready for reform.

The program’s founders hope that this program can be an inspiration to other states and the federal government to reduce recidivism, teach job and life skills, and most importantly, give hope to those who may feel hopeless. The program’s mentors are prison lifers who have experienced heart change during their time there and desire to equip others to avoid the mistakes they made.
