Did you hear what hip, happenin’ Hillary said yesterday?

Did you hear what hip, happenin’ Hillary said yesterday?

Hillary proves she’s a true 20th century woman.

As you may know, Hillary held a launch/relaunch of her campaign yesterday. I’ll admit to being a tad confused as to why this was necessary, as she’s clearly been campaigning for a while now. She’s probably thinking she’d like us to forget what’s transgressed so far. We know she’d certainly like to forget all about it.

Anyway, back to yesterday. The scene: Roosevelt Island in New York. The weather: Sunny, but looked pretty darn hot. The crowd: Full of aging hippies paid operatives actors adoring supporters. The pantsuit: Blue.

The hilarious reference:

Underscoring the point with a riff on an old Beatles song, Mrs. Clinton said: “There may be some new voices in the presidential Republican choir. But they’re all singing the same old song.”

“It’s a song called ‘Yesterday,’ ” she continued. “They believe in yesterday.”

The result: dang, she’s old.

The irony: In trying to demonstrate how she’s different — and, I guess, trying to drop a relevant cultural reference?? — Hillary succeeded in further demonstrating how old and out of touch she truly is … especially when compared to many in the GOP field.

For a woman who will desperately need to demonstrate at least a modicum of youth and vitality, this was about as outdated and irrelevant as she could get. Yes, having her make a truly relevant cultural statement would make her look silly, like when she did this, but she might’ve at least picked a song that didn’t call into stark contrast how old she really is compared to her Republican counterparts.

Because — get this! — “Yesterday” was recorded exactly 50 years ago today. On June 14, 2020, when Hillary herself was already 17 years old and much of the GOP presidential field wasn’t even born, the Beatles laid down one of their most famous tracks at EMI Studios in London.

It wasn’t released until August of 1965, when Hillary was heading off to college … and many of the GOP presidential candidates still weren’t born.

The ultimate irony? The lyrics of “Yesterday” are pretty much an ode to Hillary’s life.

Yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away.
Now it looks as though they’re here to stay.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly I’m not half the man I used to be.
There’s a shadow hanging over me.
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

Why she had to go, I don’t know, she wouldn’t say.
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Why she had to go, I don’t know, she wouldn’t say.
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Mm mm mm mm mm mm mm

There are so many shadows hanging over Hillary that it’s hard to even see her sometimes. There’s Benghazi, foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation, her secret email server … oh, the list goes on and on.

It’s clear that yesterday‘s campaign relaunch was an attempt by Hillary to reframe the narrative, to re-boot her campaign in the hopes voters will forget her past. Sadly, it looks like it’s here to stay.
